Do I need to watch other Star Wars first?
Helpful, not required. The show is a spy story that happens to share a sky. A movie later in the timeline is a door, not homework for episode one.

Why this series still plays
Watch it if you want Star Wars that the adult tags actually defended without a cute-creature alibi. Revolution as paperwork, prison, and compromise. The fandom fought about homework versus fun, then quietly admitted the homework won. Two seasons, then a door the movies already own.
So about the tags: someone called it the best Star Wars in years, someone called it homework, and someone posted a funeral still like it was a ship chart. Welcome. Disney+ built a franchise machine that usually wants the cute. Tony Gilroy’s series wanted paperwork, prison, and moral compromise. The fandom did not know where to put that. (I said spoiler-free. I meant the plot. The discourse is public record.) From here: mild. You can know the mood without knowing the heist.
