Head Detective Lassiter is in charge of the annual Civil War reenactment. Shawn knows watching the meltdowns at the rehearsals is more fun than the actual show, and so he and Gus, a history buff, show up to watch. This year they are reenacting the Battle of Piper's Cove, in which a nurse, played by Sally Reynolds, kills Confederate Captain Quantrill, played by Nelson Poe. Sally ends up missing her cue, so Lassiter stops rehearsal only to find Nelson dead for real.

Why this series still plays
A fake psychic and his best friend sell hyper-observation as Santa Barbara theater. Psych is pineapple hunts, musical detours, and James Roday–Dulé Hill chemistry as the product: detective comedy that built a rewatch religion and then kept going in the movies.
Santa Barbara, in this lighting, is a playground in pastels: a fake psychic selling hyper-observation as theater, a best friend as the tailored straight man, pineapples hiding in the frame like a running accessory. Steve Franks's Psych (2006–2014) is USA's lighter counterpart to darker cable — James Roday and Dulé Hill as the product, Timothy Omundson, Maggie Lawson, Corbin Bernsen, Kirsten Nelson — gags, callbacks, and heart in a zip code that refuses grim procedural weather. Chemistry as the silhouette. The…
