Do I need to have seen Seinfeld first?
Helpful, not required. Curb is a spiritual sequel in temperament. The reunion season is richer if you know the earlier sitcom, but the manners war stands alone.

Why this series still plays
Watch it for the pause, not the catchphrase. Improvised prestige cringe that turns petty rules into complete hours — a manners laboratory where celebrity cameos are structure, not garnish. Start early, sample the peak statutes, and treat the 2024 closer as a closer.
Watch the pause before Larry speaks. That is the cut. Curb Your Enthusiasm is not a catchphrase delivery system; it is an ethics seminar conducted by a man who will not take the seminar. HBO gave Larry David a version of himself and an outline instead of a script, and the form did the rest: scenes that feel discovered, then inevitable, then mortifying. Seinfeld taught the world that sitcoms could be about nothing. Curb teaches that nothing is a minefield if you insist on being exact.
