Why this series still plays
She followed a boy to college and a nation followed her haircut. WB teen prestige as emotional mystery-box: Keri Russell, New York dorms, J.J. Abrams learning that feeling can be plot. Late-nineties yearning with actual craft — slow, sincere, still cited whenever a network learns fans treat a haircut like a spoiler.
Visual first: a haircut that became national news, New York dorms in soft focus, Keri Russell following a boy to college while a nation followed the silhouette. J.J. Abrams and Matt Reeves created the WB drama (1998–2002) as college-set teen prestige. *Yearning as a look, voiceover as the fitting, feeling as plot.* **This was not a soft launch of a mystery box; this was a hard launch in dorm light** — and season two taught networks that fans treat hair like a spoiler.
