Why this series still plays
Watch it for the salary-unity folklore and the couch as a diplomatic table: six careers negotiated in public, ten years of Thursday as a national habit, and a reunion machine that still treats the fountain like a product launch.
Flash: the fountain was never a location. It was a photocall. On September 22, 1994, NBC puts six people on a couch and the country decides they are a city. Someone in a hotel ballroom already called it comfort television. Someone's publicist already called the salary talks amicable. They were not amicable. They were a bloc. The look is we invented Thursday, and the deleted Story is the one where the six of them realized they could hold a network hostage with a group hug.
