Why this series still plays
Two decades of scrubs as costume change. Watch it for the way a network medical soap taught America to ship, to soundtrack a trauma, and to treat a hospital hallway like a rope line. It is still on — a season closer is not a finale — and the look keeps getting refitted.
The first flash is intern scrubs under Seattle rain, a look so “casual” it launched a franchise. Ellen Pompeo’s Meredith Grey arrives already in a stolen moment with Patrick Dempsey’s Derek that the publicist would later call a meet-cute and the timeline would call McDreamy — which is to say **this was not a soft launch; this was a hard launch in cotton**. Chandra Wilson’s Miranda Bailey has ruled Grey’s Anatomy longer than some residencies — Nazi-to-chief evolution, soundtrack tears, and Emmy-winning steel. Longevity as power on Shonda Rhimes’s network medical soap. TV Flash files her…
