Should I start with monster-of-the-week or the conspiracy?
Start with the 1993 Pilot, then graze MOTW. Mythology is a long argument, not a homework packet. If you only follow the conspiracy you will burn out. If you only watch monsters you will miss why the ship became a language.

Why this series still plays
For the partnership that taught the internet how to ship: MOTW as weekly friendship, mythology as civil war, and two revival seasons that proved the trench coats were a brand stronger than any single answer. Fence the nuclear stuff. Stay for Bruckman.
So about last night's group chat: someone said the mythology is a trap, someone else dropped a Gillian Anderson still like it was a legal document, and a third person typed MSR as if it were a blood type. (I said spoiler-free. I lied a little about the vibe, not the plot.) The X-Files is fandom as weather system. Fox, 1993, two FBI agents, a basement, a poster that is already a meme. Mulder believes. Filed against
- David Duchovny as Fox Mulder
David Duchovny’s Fox Mulder made “I want to believe” a dating profile for conspiracy culture — trench coat, skepticism’s opposite, and ship-fuel chemistry with Scully. The X-Files turned him into 1990s Fox’s face of the weird. TV Flash…
- Gillian Anderson as Dana Scully
Gillian Anderson played Dana Scully on The X-Files — science as a spine, trench-coat will-they that taught the internet how to ship, monster nights beside mythology Sundays. TV Flash files her as FBI cool the tags still drop like a legal…
- Mitch Pileggi as Walter Skinner
Mitch Pileggi’s Walter Skinner is The X-Files’ basement ceiling — the assistant director who had to manage two trench coats, a conspiracy, and Fox’s monster-of-the-week habit. Trust-no-one shipping invented a modern fandom; he played the…
- Robert Patrick as John Doggett
Robert Patrick’s John Doggett arrived on The X-Files when the trench-coat religion already had a church — later-era FBI partnership under Fox’s monster nights and mythology Sundays. Mulder believed; Scully had a spine; Doggett had to walk…
- Annabeth Gish as Monica Reyes
Annabeth Gish joined The X-Files as Monica Reyes — late-mythology faith and FBI cool when the conspiracy map was already crowded. She held the trench-coat energy without copying Scully. TV Flash files her under 1990s/2000s sci-fi ensemble…
