Why this series still plays
The Belchers run a struggling burger joint while the kids generate beautiful problems and songs erupt without warning. Loren Bouchard's Fox animation is Bob's anxiety, Linda's whoop, Tina-Gene-Louise specificity. Kindest long-running adult animation of the decade without losing joke bite — working-class warmth, pun burgers, a movie, Ocean Avenue still open.
A struggling burger joint, kids generating beautiful problems, songs erupting without warning. Loren Bouchard's Fox animation premiered January 9, 2011, and never really left: H. Jon Benjamin's anxious Bob, John Roberts's Linda, Kristen Schaal's Louise, Dan Mintz's Tina, Eugene Mirman's Gene. Guest burgers are puns; love is non-negotiable. Storyboarded fantasy sequences and original songs are house style, not extras. The work is the griddle — working-class warmth as comic engine, joke bite intact.
