Gretchen's depression season is the sitcom-craft landmark the show is still cited for. Edgar's PTSD arc widens the ensemble. Start at season one so the bruise has a relationship to land on.

Why this series still plays
Two terrible people try something like love while the jokes stay mean and the landings go soft. Aya Cash's depression season remains the sitcom craft people still cite; Edgar's PTSD arc expands the ensemble. Anti-rom-com honesty for cynics — a romance that refuses the makeover and still lands the kiss.
The flash is a mean joke with a soft landing. Two commitment-phobic jerks fall into something like love while friends circle the drain of adulthood — Stephen Falk's FX/FXX comedy (2014–2019), Aya Cash's Gretchen, Chris Geere's Jimmy, Kether Donohue's Lindsay, Desmin Borges's Edgar in the blast radius. Rom-com grammar inverted on purpose. Terrible people trying, without a makeover montage to wash them clean. The museum guard wanted likable leads. **They are terrible on purpose. The try is the plot.**
