Tom Lester

Tom Lester’s Eb Dawson is the hired-hand grin on Green Acres, the 1960s sitcom that dragged New York lawyer Oliver Wendell Douglas and glamorous Lisa onto a farm where pigs outranked local officials. Eddie Albert’s despair against Eva Gabor’s charm; Jay Sommers’s Hooterville cousin as the smartest, strangest rural hour. Absurdist television hiding in overalls. Lester is why the farm talks back.

Green Acres is CBS's 1960s machine (1965–1971). New York lawyer Oliver Wendell Douglas drags glamorous Lisa to a broken-down farm where the pigs are smarter than the local officials. Tom Lester as Eb Dawson is how that machine keeps a human temperature. He returns in the frame because the hour needs him. File the run, then the performance.

First code: s01e01. Oliver Buys a Farm is the lawyer-to-Hooterville contract: Eddie Albert's despair, Eva Gabor's glamour, pigs already outranking officials. Then s03e24, where Our Son, the Barber — mid-run Hooterville logic as family gag, Jay Sommers's farm still refusing city common sense. s02e01 remains the turn: Wings Over Hooterville opens season two still airborne: absurdist television hiding in overalls, the cousin sitcom smarter than the sneer. Essentials as seating. Lester is the reason to sit there.

Canceled like a punchline, remembered like a cult. On TV Flash Lester is ensemble craft in a series that treated country life as surrealist set design. Watch him when Oliver wants reason and Hooterville wants a bit. The overalls were the costume; Eb was the joke that lived there.
