Vella Lovell

Vella Lovell plays Heather Davis on Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Rachel Bloom’s 2010s West Covina musical: rom-com deconstruction with showstoppers about obsession, OCD, and the lie of the grand gesture. Songs that should not work on The CW, do. Network comedy at its most formally daring — stigma-breaking as structure, not a Very Special episode. Lovell is the neighbor the chorus required — dry heat, a life that is not the heroine’s thesis.

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend — The CW, 2015–2019 — is the 2010s hour this page is for. A New York lawyer impulsively follows an ex to West Covina and processes obsession through elaborate musical numbers. Heather Davis is Lovell's job here. She keeps the seating chart from looking like merch, and 2015–2019 is the proof the hour kept hiring her.

Josh Just Happens to Live Here! ignites the West Covina musical: Bloom's rom-com deconstruction, obsession as a showstopper. That is s01e01, still behaving like a contract. s02e01 proves it survived opening night: Where Is Josh's Friend? keeps the grand-gesture lie as the engine, songs still working on a network that should not allow them. s04e18 is the later hour — The concert special files the dare — stigma-breaking as a titled sing-through, not a Very Special, last on the list. Vella Lovell as Heather Davis is why those numbers still have a face.

The showstopper is the brand; she is why the block exists. On TV Flash Lovell is 2010s musical-comedy ensemble: not a backup dancer in a bit, a friend who made West Covina feel populated. Watch the number. Heather is the reason the deconstruction still has a couch.
