A.J. Langer

My So-Called Life treats high school as interior weather: one season, canceled, permanent syllabus. Langer’s Rayanne Graff is the friend who arrives like a dare — parties, hurt, a presence that makes Angela’s narration have somewhere to go. She plays chaos as a person, not a warning. Watch it as 1990s ABC drama that still feels un-scabbed. Danes arrives fully formed; Rayanne is the weather front.

ABC ran My So-Called Life from 1994–1995. Langer's Rayanne Graff is the assignment, not a footnote in the credits. s01e01 is the door — The pilot: Claire Danes narrating sophomore year like a wound, Winnie Holzman declining the problem-of-the-week alibi. s01e05 keeps the climate: The Zit: interior weather as house style — teen realism that treats a face as history, not a gag. That is the gossip: Rayanne Graff as work, My So-Called Life as the room.

Wilson Cruz’s Rickie shares the landmark hallway; Rayanne is the other kind of risk. On TV Flash Langer is short-run craft that outlived the ax. Stay for the friendship that will not sit still. Adolescence as a wound, not a topic. She made the canceled season feel crowded with life, which is why the cult still starts fights about a show that barely got to exist.

Langer does not need a sidebar to explain My So-Called Life. ABC, 1994–1995: Rayanne Graff as the job. File s01e01 as ignition: The pilot: Claire Danes narrating sophomore year like a wound, Winnie Holzman declining the problem-of-the-week alibi. s01e10 is later weather: Other People's Mothers: the family hour as a pressure system, not a Very Special lecture. Watch the hour, not a clip farm. Langer is still the assignment.
