Belinda Montgomery

Belinda Montgomery plays Katherine Howser on Doogie Howser, M.D., the early-nineties medical dramedy of a teenage doctor who journals each case on a glowing computer. Harris arriving fully formed; genius as gift and social handicap. Vinnie as civilian best friend; the kid is the ER. Katherine is the mother who has to live with a prodigy as a household, not a stunt. Network warmth with a diary punchline. Montgomery makes the home feel like a counterweight. 1989–1993 on ABC is the assignment. Doogie Howser, M.D. does not get a free pass for being famous; Katherine Howser still has to finish the hour.

s01e01 remains the cleanest on-ramp. Teenage doctor, glowing computer journal: Neil Patrick Harris arriving fully formed, the kid already the expert. Katherine Howser is not pending a promotion. The hour already needs her.

s01e25 is the listed turn — The Grass Ain't Always Greener: season-one closer as diary punchline, genius still gift and handicap in the same file. The later listed weather is s02e01: Doogenstein: high-concept title on network warmth, Vinnie still the civilian best friend the room needs. Skip treating Doogie Howser, M.D. as only its logline. Montgomery is why the seating chart still argues.

The hospital is the gimmick; the kitchen is the cost. On TV Flash she is 1990s family-drama craft — the parent who photographed as support and played as the reason Doogie still feels like a son. On TV Flash she is 1990s craft with a pulse — Katherine Howser as the reason Doogie Howser, M.D. still feels inhabited.
