David Howser
James B. Sikking
James B. Sikking’s David Howser grounded Doogie Howser, M.D. — teenage doctor, glowing computer diary, 1990s network warmth with a prodigy as gift and social handicap. Father as the civilian weather around a kid in scrubs. TV Flash files him as the dad the diary still writes home to.
James B. Sikking plays David Howser on Doogie Howser, M.D. (ABC, 1989–1993), the 1990s prodigy medical dramedy where a teenage doctor journals each case on a glowing computer. Neil Patrick Harris arrives fully formed; David is the father who treats genius as a household condition — gift and social handicap in the same kitchen.
Sikking sells warmth without turning the dad into a punchline. Early-nineties network ease, Vinnie as civilian best friend, the kid as the experiment.
What survives is not a merch still of Doogie Howser, M.D. — James B. Watch s01e01 before you argue the rerun — Teenage doctor, glowing computer journal: Neil Patrick Harris arriving fully formed, the kid already the expert. Skip ahead to s01e25 when the handshake is not enough — The Grass Ain't Always Greener: season-one closer as diary punchline, genius still gift and handicap in the same file. Close the map on s02e01 without treating it as a recap — Doogenstein: high-concept title on network warmth, Vinnie still the civilian best friend the room needs.
On TV Flash he is the home the prodigy returns to. Watch the diary punchline; file the father as the reason it hurts. We track Sikking as 1990s family-drama craft: the Howser who made a teen M.D. hour feel like a house, not a gimmick in a lab coat.
