Agnes Nixon's Pine Valley makes Erica Kane, via Susan Lucci, into daytime's defining diva, then withholds the Emmy long enough to mint a mythology. Social-issue soap with a supermodel of ambition at the center. Lucci's long game: marriages, schemes, and the victory lap America demanded.
