How this season is filed

Filed by Tessa Quinn · Spoiler-Free (Mostly)

Freddie Prinze's Chico spars with Jack Albertson's cranky East L.A. garage owner until tragedy cuts the partnership short. Intergenerational odd-couple sitcom that put Chicano lead energy on NBC, then became a cautionary production story. Looking good as a goodbye.

TV Flash files Season 2 of Chico and the Man (1974–1978) on NBC as a mid listed season (2; 2 of 4) — 22 listed hours, 1975-09-12–1976-03-03 from “Paint Job” (S02E01) to “The Face Job” (S02E22). Titles, dates, and synopses on file — no invented recaps.

Desk essentials in this season

  1. S02E01 Paint Job

Paint Job is the East L.A. shop still the whole world. Odd-couple sitcom as labor farce: the garage remaining the set, the partnership still the joke and the bruise.

  2. S02E07 Ms. Liz

Ms. Liz is a named arrival in the garage orbit. The series widening the East L.A. canvas without dropping the crank-and-kid chemistry that made the NBC brief feel like news.
