How this guide is filed
Frances McDormand's difficult Maine teacher bruises and loves her way through linked lives; Richard Jenkins's Henry absorbs the weather. Jane Anderson's mosaic from Elizabeth Strout treats ordinary ache as cinema. Limited-series prestige at its quietest — minimal plot, maximal character, kindness that arrives sideways if it arrives at all.
