How this season is filed
Hip-hop's mainstream cable embassy: videos, cyphers, and Fab 5 Freddy, Ed Lover, and Doctor Dré as the hosts who walked rap into suburban living rooms without sanding it down. MTV finally treated the culture as a show, not a specialty clip. Late-80s proof that the channel's future was not just hair metal.
