How this season is filed
Russell T Davies's 2005 reboot made a decades-old British institution global again. Christopher Eccleston cracked the door; David Tennant turned it into a phenomenon. Monster-of-the-week with companion heart, regenerations as national sport — sci-fi as family event TV reborn.
