How this season is filed
Hullabaloo was NBC's answer to Shindig: guest hosts, caged go-go dancers, and chart acts in a chrome variety frame. It lasted little more than a season and still became visual shorthand for 1965. The rock-variety arms race from the other corner — more produced, more Broadway-adjacent, television bottling the charts before MTV existed to steal the job.

A short, bright run: when rock TV moved toward more ‘authentic’ youth frames, Hullabaloo’s variety sheen aged overnight.
