How this season is filed

Filed by Julian Hart · The Binge Brief

Cloris Leachman takes Mary's most self-absorbed neighbor west to San Francisco and lets the neurosis lead. An MTM spin-off that bets a supporting comic can carry a series on timing alone. Physical comedy as contact sport, vanity included, and no Mary Richards safety net in sight.

TV Flash files Season 2 of Phyllis (1975–1977) on CBS as the last listed season of 2 — 24 listed hours, 1976-09-20–1977-03-13 from “The New Job” (S02E01) to “A Baby Makes Six” (S02E24). Titles, dates, and synopses on file — no invented recaps.

Desk essentials in this season

  1. S02E01 The New Job

The New Job is the second-season reset named as employment. Phyllis still west of Minneapolis, still without Mary's net: workplace as a new room for the same neurosis.

  2. S02E24 A Baby Makes Six

A Baby Makes Six is the 1977 closer. Two seasons of Leachman leading on timing alone, then a census-title bow: the vain neighbor as a series, not a recurring sting.
