How this season is filed

Filed by Max Sterling · Streaming Confidential

Melonville's fake television network lets Second City Canada's sharpest — John Candy, Catherine O'Hara, Eugene Levy, Andrea Martin — satirize the medium from inside the broadcast. Writers' sketch comedy at championship density. Deep-cut characters, not just the Hollywood alumni list, plus station IDs worth quoting forever.

TV Flash files Season 3 of SCTV (1976–1984) on Global / Syndicated / NBC as the last listed season of 3 — 26 listed hours, 1980-09-19–1981-03-13 from “Lee A. Iacocca's Rock Concert” (S03E01) to “The Best of Season 3” (S03E26). Titles, dates, and synopses on file — no invented recaps.

Desk essentials in this season

  1. S03E01 Lee A. Iacocca's Rock Concert

Lee A. Iacocca's Rock Concert is a named-target landmark. Corporate America as a variety-host gag: SCTV still denser than the U.S. sketch hours it would outwit, still a local station from nowhere.

  2. S03E26 The Best of Season 3

The Best of Season 3 is the catalog tail sample. A clip-hour bow in the files: Melonville's fake network as championship sketch, the medium still the target, the alumni later becoming the mainstream.
