How this season is filed

Filed by Rex Fontaine · Golden Age Dispatch

Two percent vanished; grief is the plot and answers stay optional. Damon Lindelof and Tom Perrotta turn October 14 into civic religion for Justin Theroux, Carrie Coon, and Ann Dowd. Three seasons of cults, hymns, and HBO's boldest tonal swings — mystery-box TV that cares more about how we live than what happened.

TV Flash files Season 3 of The Leftovers (2014–2017) on HBO as the last listed season of 3 — 8 listed hours, 2017-04-16–2017-06-04 from “The Book of Kevin” (S03E01) to “The Book of Nora” (S03E08). Titles, dates, and synopses on file — no invented recaps.

Desk essentials in this season

  1. S03E08 The Book of Nora

The Book of Nora closes as hymn, not a mystery-box dump — three seasons that cared more about living than what happened.

  2. S03E01 The Book of Kevin

The Book of Kevin opens final-season scripture — cults and hymns as structure, Theroux still the camera's unanswered prayer.

  1. S03E01

    The Book of Kevin

Three years after Miracle, Texas was overrun by the Guilty Remnant, Kevin Garvey has returned to his role as chief of police. Although he seems to have moved past the incredible events surrounding his "resurrection," the Seventh Anniversary of the Sudden Departure is just two weeks away and many believe another apocalyptic event may come with it.

  2. S03E02

    Don't Be Ridiculous

In her official capacity as fraud investigator for the Department of Sudden Departure, Nora travels to St. Louis to investigate a possible scam that involves convincing the family members of The Departed there's a way to see their loved ones again.

  3. S03E03

    Crazy Whitefella Thinking

With the clock ticking towards the anniversary of the Departure and emboldened by a vision that is either divine prophecy or utter insanity, Kevin Garvey, Sr. wanders the Australian Outback in an effort to save the world from apocalypse.

  4. S03E04

    G'Day Melbourne

Kevin and Nora travel to Australia, where she continues to track down the masterminds of an elaborate con, while he catches a glimpse of an unexpected face from the past, forcing him to confront the traumatic events of three years earlier.

  5. S03E05

It's a Matt, Matt, Matt, Matt World

Convinced it is Kevin's destiny to be in Miracle for the coming seventh anniversary of the Departure, Matt Jamison impulsively heads to Australia in an effort to bring Kevin home. Unfortunately, God gets in the way.

  6. S03E06

    Certified

Laurie Garvey, a former therapist, must become one again as she heads to Australia to help Nora and Kevin along their paths.

  7. S03E07

The Most Powerful Man in the World (and His Identical Twin Brother)

On a mission of mercy, Kevin assumes an alternate identity.

  8. S03E08
