How this season is filed

Filed by Rex Fontaine · Golden Age Dispatch

The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show packed Cold War spies, puns, and fractured fairy tales into Jay Ward's cheap-looking, expensive-witted cartoons. Moose, squirrel, Boris, Natasha, and Mr. Peabody talked past the kids in the room. Adult satire hiding in limited animation — the opposite of Hanna-Barbera smoothness, and still funnier than most live-action spy spoofs of the same years.
