How this season is filed

Filed by Rex Fontaine · Golden Age Dispatch

Ken Howard's white ex-pro coaches a mostly Black Los Angeles high-school team, and the gym becomes a social-drama classroom. Bruce Paltrow's shop lets race, class, and teenage ego into the locker room without after-school-special frosting. Sports television that actually talks, then hits the buzzer.

TV Flash files Season 3 of The White Shadow (1978–1981) on CBS as the last listed season of 3 — 15 listed hours, 1980-10-16–1981-03-16 from “Reunion (1)” (S03E01) to “A Day in the Life” (S03E15). Titles, dates, and synopses on file — no invented recaps.

Desk essentials in this season

  1. S03E01 Reunion (1)

Reunion (1) is a season-open about coming back. High-school basketball as memory and argument: the gym still a civic room, not a trophy commercial.

  2. S03E06 No Blood, No Foul

No Blood, No Foul is the rulebook as thesis. Locker-room drama treating the whistle as ethics: race and ego still in the paint, no frosting on the lecture.

  3. S03E15 A Day in the Life

A Day in the Life is the 1981 closer. Three seasons of gym social drama, then a process-title bow: sports television that talked, then left the locker room.
