Dave Goelz

Dave Goelz performs Gonzo (and others) on The Muppet Show, the 1970s catalog UK-made syndication hit that put A-list guests in felt. Kermit under stress, Piggy’s diva karate, balcony hecklers: Goelz is the stunt and the sigh. He makes variety for mixed-age living rooms feel like a dare with a hook-nose.

On Syndicated, The Muppet Show is not a cameo pit stop for Dave Goelz. The 1976–1981 run is long enough to prove the job is weekly. Begin at s01e01: Rita Moreno opens the UK-made vaudeville catastrophe. Henson's mixed-age syndication hit already has balcony hecklers, songs, and a frog under. Then let s02e01: George Burns as guest is old-showbiz DNA walking into felt chaos — variety history sharing a bill with Piggy's diva chops and Kermit's stage-manager. Goelz stays in the shot like he has a Tuesday.

Fraggle Rock later put the workshop in an underground musical of Fraggles, Doozers, and Gorgs arguing about the same world. On TV Flash Goelz is 1970s/1980s craft — Gonzo as the named weather, HBO kids prestige as the encore, still the reason a cannon and a cave can share a puppeteer.

HBO/CBC later used Goelz on Fraggle Rock as Boober Fraggle. Start that title at s01e01 — Beginnings unboxes Fraggles, Doozers, Gorgs, a human workshop: HBO kids prestige as international co-production, the world already shared. Goelz does not visit this floor; he works it. s02e01 on The Muppet Show remains a useful hour: George Burns as guest is old-showbiz DNA walking into felt chaos — variety history sharing a bill with Piggy's diva chops and Kermit's stage-manager.
